Upon the recent announcement concerning running for the 11th District Congressional seat by Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower, the formation of an exploratory committee by Henderson County GOP Chair Spence Campbell, and continued interest expressed by attorney Orville Coward Jr. of Franklin, Stephen G. Duncan, Republican Party Chair, North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, made the following statement:
"We are excited here in the 11th district because any of these potential candidates for Congress would honestly represent the real interests of Western North Carolina, unlike the current member. All these candidates are honorable and viable challengers to our current Member of Congress. As Chair of the 11th Congressional District, I have been saying all along that after this Labor Day positive developments to unseat the current member would begin in earnest and I'm delighted that such excellent candidates have come forward."
Duncan concluded, "I'm looking forward to working with our candidates to expose the fraudulent presentation of Mr. Shuler's representation in Washington. Mr. Shuler just needed a little time to show he says one thing when he's here in western North Carolina while his handlers handle him and then he continues to do something else when he's in Washington."
